- Three Questions for the STAP Sigh Boys
This time, we asked Poe of the STAP Sigh Boys, who hit the number one spot on the college charts on January 23, to answer three questions for us! ◇Three questions When and why did you start your music career? In April 2020, I had nothing to do during Corona's "home time," so I bought a broken used guitar at Zimoti for 3,500 yen and tried to learn the music software "Logic Pro. I hadn't listened to guitar music since I was 14, so it was an experiment for me and a way to pass the time. I soon realized that making guitar music was much more fun and emotional than the synthesizer music I had been making. I didn't know much about guitar music and had never been to a rock festival in Japan, but a friend suggested I enter a contest called "Rookie a go go" at Fuji Rock. I was confident in my music, but I had never played a live show in my life and had no band members, so when I got the call to perform, I felt a strange mixture of shock, elation, and fear. On the same day that Fuji Rock asked me to play, a friend of mine started a local band called "NeruQooNelu" ( ). ( https://www.neruqoonelu.com ), a local band with great skills. They became the backing band for the STAP Sigh Boys a few days later. I've only been playing music for less than two years, but it's already been the greatest joy of my life. Who are some of the artists that have influenced you? I was introduced to Japanese music through Cornelius' album "Phantasma", so I was very happy to be able to perform at Fuji Rock on the same day as him. Unfortunately, that didn't happen in the end. ...... As for the album "Hey," released in November 2021, there are quite a few mixed influences. The chords of the songs could have been inspired by "Stereolab" and "Tyler the Creator". I listen to a lot of disco and soul music made between 1975 and 1985, and not so much music made recently. My music has a pop feel to it, with some guitar, but I like electronic music, so I tend to layer a lot of electronic sounds and effects into my songs, like the artist "Sophie". Actually, I don't really know what I'm doing when it comes to songwriting! But I think my inexperience has become my strength. STEREOLAB TYLER THE CREATOR SOPHIE CORNELIUS GIORGIO MORODER The song "Venom" is actually a remake of a melody I wrote when I was 14. Venom" is actually a remake of a melody I wrote when I was 14. At the time, I was trying to create a "tropical" sound. The lyrics are a bit dirty, so unfortunately I don't think it will appear on any English-speaking playlists or radio shows. Actually, I think the most interesting point in my music is the lyrics, but since 99% of the listeners are probably non-native English speakers, I wonder how many of them actually understand the meaning of the lyrics. "Venom" / STAP Sigh Boys Release Date:11/23 Label: Self-produced Distribution Link: https://open.spotify.com/track/5ZnkHRrPQXVVIMHwoQvXst ◇Profile STAP Sigh Boys Stap Sigh Boys originally came to Japan to work in the Irish Pavilion at the 1970 Osaka Expo, but quickly fell into the freezer when he visited the Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo, and was finally thawed out on October 6, 2018, when the fish market moved to Toyosu. May his brain be completely thawed by listening to music. It's a love story of my imaginary daughter. This album is not music, it is conceptual art. It is a film without images. Prior to the release of the album, I will be releasing a number of singles as an EP. The first one to be released on February 11 is called "In My Room". The theme is about the time when Aino-chan became a recluse. I think it sounds like Daft Punk playing country music. I'd really like to do some live performances, but I'm taking a break until Omicron settles down. CRJA FUKUOKA is currently appearing on LOVE FM's "#Timpy" every Sunday in the corner "FRESH FINDS! First of all, my parents were in a band. For Japanese music, I like Fuji Fabric, GREAT3, Kururi, SPARTA LOCARS, Hatsukoi no Arashi, etc. For Western music, I like Bjork, Gorillaz, Sigur Ros, etc. I am influenced by them. Fuji Fabric SPARTA LOCARS Gorillaz Please tell us about the part of the charting song "Shiroku Naranai" that you want us to pay attention to. At first you might think, "A song about lost love...", but I like the way the definition of the subject gradually expands. - Three questions for Synapse
Synapse is a three-piece band based in Fukuoka, Japan. They're a twin-vocal band! This time, CRJAFUKUOKA asked them to answer three questions about their music, which was also number one on the college charts dated November 28th! ◇Three questions When and why did you start your music career? I think it was in high school that I started my music career in earnest. We were classmates at the same high school, and at the time we were in a five-piece band called Poncy Aglet (we were all on the soccer team, and that's where it all started), and then a guitarist and drummer who wanted to sing formed a three-piece band called Synapse with a pianist. From there, a guitarist and a drummer who wanted to sing formed a three-piece band, Synapse, with a pianist. Our first live performance was in our second year of high school. Since then, we have been active. Who are some of the artists that have influenced you? Personally, I'm influenced by Takashi Ikeda and Kazuha Izawa. Recently, I've been impressed by the straightforward approach to music of plastic plastic from Thailand, and I've been studying them. Please tell us what you want us to pay attention to in the chart-topping song "Gen". I wrote this song about five years ago, and it is a bit sentimental, as I was at a sentimental age at the time. I'm both happy and embarrassed to hear that people have appreciated this song. Thank you very much. It was a good opportunity for me to rethink my sentimental self at that time. It's a love song for a shy lover. I love the sound of the horn that makes me feel nostalgic. It's a song that will warm you up from the aural side in this cold season. <This week's chart entries> "Half Asleep" / Happypills Happypills is a home-recorded artist from Fukuoka, Japan, who is influenced by surf rock and dream pop. The perfect combination of freshness and fantasy, it's a sound you'll want to listen to during the winter months. "Shunpu Orai" / Teikoku Cafe Teikoku Cafe is a four-piece rock band based in Osaka, Japan, and their first EP has just been unsubscribed, so here's a song from it! The song "Shunpu Orai" is the most rocking song I've ever heard, and I feel like this is Teikoku Cafe! This is Teikoku Cafe! It's a song about youth, with a fast-paced sound and straightforward thoughts. "Tonight" / Living Rita This is a musical project started by two members of Czecho No Republic. However, there is no need for that preamble, as this is a superb dream-pop sound that gives a sense of the breadth of their musical range. - Three questions for downt
Although they have been together for only half a year, downt's first album released in October of this year drew a lot of attention due to its strong musicality, and they have quickly become a band to watch in the indie scene. This time, CRJAFUKUOKA asked them to answer three questions about their music, which was ranked No. 1 on the college chart on November 14! ◇Three questions When and why did you start your music career? A band is fine. This is the first band Togashi has ever been in, and he's always wanted to be in a band. I started because I wanted to be popular. I've never heard of Robert, but I think he'd be popular even if he didn't play in a band. Who are some of your influences? I think Togashi said he likes Masdre, Rega and NOT WONK. Recently, he said that Faraquet is good. Robert says toe, killie, sora, Utada Hikaru. Kawai→Minor Threat、Drive Like Jehu、FUGAZI、Unwound、JAWBOX、La Quiete、Yaphet Kotto、Ampere、Turning Point、Maximillian Colby、Slint、Indian Summer、Sleepytime Trio、Orchid、Christie Front Drive、Black Flag、Sunny Day Real Estate、Engine Down、there is a light that never goes out Please tell us what you want us to pay attention to in the charting song "111511". I don't have a particular part that I want people to pay attention to, so I think it's best to let people listen to it freely. I think the most important parts are the songs, lyrics, and riffs, but I think that's too obvious to answer the question, so I'll go a little more in-depth. The song that took me the longest to pre-process, I wanted to make it in a way that was not emo or alternative, but it didn't work out so well. While I was going through a lot of trial and error, I told Togashi that the fuzz at 2:09 was useless and that I should stop playing it, and he got really angry. Then I realized that he was only thinking about the fuzz, and the arrangement progressed quickly and the song was completed. So I stuck to the challenge of expressing that sounds other than fuzz are meaningless, but it's the meaninglessness that makes them wonderful. Previous post here↓ https://www.crjafukuoka.com/post/weekly-college-chart-2021-11-7 <This week's number one> "111511" / downt Emo and shoegaze sounds, strong female vocals, rhythms and songs are all good. The rhythm and music are all good, and it's very complete as one world of "111511"! Anyway, it's a cool ministry. I recommend it to people who like NOT WONK and Hitsuji Bungaku. <This week's chart entries> "Disappears" / Sugar House Sugar House is a four-piece band from Tokyo, Japan, with a sound influenced by shoegaze and UK rock, but with an indie sense of melody and a dark freshness. "甜蜜的房間" / Everfor This is the second album by a four-piece band from Taiwan, which also includes members of Freckles. It is a work that expresses both the uncertainty that seems to be there but doesn't exist, like a mirage, and the comfort that allows you to surrender to it with peace of mind. "Toketeku" / Botanical Life Single released on November 3 by a 6 piece pop band. It's a love song for a shy lover. I love the sound of the horn that makes me feel nostalgic. It's a song that will warm you up from the auditory sense during this cold season ☕️. Yukitaka Mohri: When I was making the album "SANSO", which contains this song, I was listening to frank ocean, joji, Solange, Tatsuro Yamashita, My Bloody Valentine, etc. GOING STEADY Please tell us about the part of the chart-topping song "Swim Good" that you want us to pay attention to. Yukitaka Mohri: At the end of 2020, when Corona was a little calmer, I performed at a live house called Himitsu for the first time in 8 months, and I wrote the lyrics remembering the people who were dancing on the floor of the live house at that time. It reminded me of the people who were dancing on the floor of the live house at that time, so I wrote the lyrics. It was a moment when I felt the joy of live performance again. MOTOKO: It's a summery song, but I want people to listen to it even after the weather gets colder, so I added some heavy synth sounds to make it not too refreshing. I'd like you to listen to it while drinking soda in a heated room during this season. Alai: It's an ambitious piece of work where the small swells created by the guitars and synths overlapping and replacing each other over and over again develop into a big wave in the second half. Beruko: I used the bass to express the rhythm that makes you want to shake your body, and the fine nuance of water splashing. The wave-like feeling from the interlude to the big chorus is so good!
